For the last 2 weeks my eldest son has been unwell. Now he has been know to feign illness to evade school, but never at the expense of missing swimming lessons!! The boy is part fish! Two weeks ago the school rang and said come and collect Lachlan(before his swimming lesson was due to start), he has a temperature of 38 degrees. Dutifully we brought him home and he was very distressed with headaches that night and the next day. His temperatures continued everyday for a week and I finally took him to a doctor last week that gave him a brief look over and wrote out a script for antibiotics! I really hate it when they give you the quick brush off, especially since I am a Mum that barely takes her child to a doctor unless I am really worried!
After 5 days on antibiotics Lachlan was still no better and now he was coughing so hard he was throwing up. It breaks your heart to see your little darling so distressed. He didn't want to do anything other than lie around on the couch and watch TV. He even passed on an icecream! (He must be very sick). He was still having temperatures everyday around the 38 degree mark and last night I couldn't handle it.
Off to the hospital we went. The doctors were wonderful and thorough. Lachlan was sent for a chest X-ray and they discovered the poor little lad had pneumonia! No wonder he has been so unwell for so long. They have changed his antibiotics, so hopefully he will start to get better now, but he will end up missing 3 weeks of school by then. I am very glad that we know what is wrong now, it is actually a relief. Lets hope he makes a speedy recovery from this point!
